My story
HOLLY RASKY
I am a Toronto-based writer, lawyer, and public affairs professional who has spent her career working in public policy, politics, and community advocacy. In 2025, I also stood as a political candidate.
Throughout my life, I have been driven by a desire to help people navigate complex issues and create positive change.
Where it all started
Family, school, and a pull to public service
My family and education instilled in me the importance of helping others. My time at Sarah Lawrence College, McGill University, and Queen’s University Law School all prepared me for a life dedicated to public service and helping others whenever I could.
Story telling & plain language
When I was a young lawyer, my father wanted to hear about my day and the cases I was working on. He wasn’t a lawyer, and his eyes would glaze over when I used legal jargon. What he cared about was what was at stake, and why. So I had to find a way to translate my day into terms that he could understand and get excited about.
This was an important lesson early in my career. Using plain language could make complicated ideas understandable, and story-telling made even the driest subjects interesting.
With years of practise, simplifying the complex became my superpower, and natural style of communication regardless of my audience.
My AI learning
journey
When I decided to learn how to use AI at the age of 60, I discovered first hand how frustratingly hard it was just to get started as a complete beginner. The books, videos, and courses assumed I already knew what AI was and where to find it. I didn’t.
So I wrote the book I wish existed when I started with AI: PROMPT.
Writing PROMPT is the latest chapter in what I've done throughout my career: translating complexity
The Gap
& the Guide
I realized I wasn’t alone, and that there was a much bigger issue at play: millions of capable people don’t know where to start with AI, or have decided it’s not for them, in a world where AI literacy is fast becoming an essential skill.
That’s the AI literacy gap.
Determined to help close it, I turned my own learning journey and ability to simplify the complex, into this plain language guide designed to help beginners understand and use AI safely and with confidence.
My goal is simple: make AI accessible to everyone, and close the AI literacy gap one reader at a time.
